In the Village Neighborhood of Jersey City, this Civil War era townhouse was expanded onto a second, corner-facing lot for a two-family home that could be combined into a larger single residence. A mix of the the historic fabric and a more modern addition, if fits into the neighborhood but stands out as a dynamic way to use the prosaic materials found on the buildings around it, the vinyl siding, the aluminum windows, and uses the overhead wires ubiquitous to Downtown Jersey City as inspiration for details such as the security guard low fencing around the planting beds.

Completed in 2004, this was our practice's first project on that side of the Hudson River and brought us more and more work in this rapidly growing city.
